Snow . . .

So. We get snowed in a few weeks before xmas, and now we get snowed in again a few weeks after xmas, but did we get any snow at all over xmas? No, now we did not. *grouchy face*

In other words, the Broken Kitty is still halfway broken, but the vet figured we could take the splint off anyways as long as I continued to keep him confined and not let him jump on or off anything. He had a few nasty sores on his leg when the wrapping came off on Thursday, but they're already healing up nicely. Had to put him on antibiotics, though, but only have three more days of that. His broken leg is seriously like half the width of his good one, which is sort of sad, and also covered with bald patches.

Broken kitten: continued

So, leg is not seeming to heal. The doc put a bandage on instead of a splint this time, since one of his leg bones is unbroken and acts as a sort of splint itself. She said not to come back until the bandage falls off, and we'll do more xrays then. If there's some sign of healing by then she'll just re-wrap it, if not we might have to go in for surgery.

This whole ordeal is proving very expensive. I've managed the last few appointments on money put aside in advance, and by cutting my food budget way down, but I don't know how I'll be able to swing it if we have to have surgery. Really wishing I had pet health insurance now.

I want my cat back. :(

Tear the Curtain

I saw Tear the Curtain a few days ago at the Stanley in Vancouver. Awesome! Weird as hell and a total mind-fuck, but absolutely stunning. It was the kind of play that you see and say "I don't really get what was going on, but it didn't matter."

Tomtom is recovering well, but I think he's getting grouchy about being cooped up. He keeps trying to escape and he meows whenever I walk by his area.

Broken kitten, Pt 2

So, here are a few before/after pictures of the poor Broken Kitten.

My poor baby. :(

. . . but he does look rather funny.

Broken kitten

So, my cat broke his leg Sunday night. The whole ordeal has been rather awful, and he's going to be living in my closet for the next few weeks while he heals, and the doctor says there's a chance it won't heal properly and he'll need surgery. I'm rather upset, and kitten is unhappy, and I miss my hugs. I keep turning around and expecting him to be at my heels, but he's not. I want my crazy-making boy back. :(

Since I took a class in the first summer session, I'm only getting off now. So relieved to be able to rest. Next week I've got a big family thing to go to - long road trip followed by camping, fun. But it'll be nice to see that side of my family again. Focusing on cleaning right now.

Delicious Library

So, I discovered this program. This beautiful, wonderful, godsend of a program. Delicious Library.

Basically, it uses your webcam to scan the barcode of any book, cd, dvd, etc, and compiles a list. Which I can then upload to the internet (if I wished) or save to my iPod. Now I never have to worry about buying duplicates again!

It only took me a couple of hours to scan and relabel (because I'm finicky that way) my entire manga collection. I'll work on books tomorrow.

So . . . I have 149 volumes of manga. (O.o) Jesus. That's a small fortune, right there, put together over the years.

Seriously, though, check out the free trial.

Note: With older manga, sometimes the outside barcode gives you the wrong thing (Tokyo Mew Mew Volume 1, again and again, and again). In this case, just use the barcode on the inside of the book instead. It's a bit harder for the program to "grab," but it'll give you the correct item.

Ow. Shit. OW.

So, had my H1N1 vaccine today - gotta love being on the priority list! Of the dozen or so needles I've had stuck in me over the last month, it was the least painful. In fact, I hardly felt it at all. Good, yeah?

Except now my arm is hurting like a really hurty thing. Ow.

Anyways, on to the topic: I'm not doing Nano this year, due to extreme cases of FAIL in recent years, but my system rebels at the idea of not doing insane amounts of crappy writing in November. It just feels wrong. So I've made a commitment to write 50000 words put together by the 30th. Yesterday I split the words between a DS9 AU I've been wanting to write for years, and a Torchwood/Dark Is Rising crossover I've been wanting to write for years. I highly doubt that either of these will ever be completed.

The point? I would much like prompts/requests. As many as possible, please - don't worry about giving me too many. Anything that's half-decent I'll edit and post as Xmas fics, the other stuff I may or may not post raw depending on how embarrassingly terrible it is.

Also? [info]cheloya: Please let me know what you would like specifically for your birthday fic.

Once again, f-listers: If you would be so kind, please please please give me some prompts to work with. I'd appreciate it ever so much!

Camouflage: Ur doing it wrong

Saw this on the wall outside my apartment today.

So adorable. And also creepy. But mostly adorable.

Little ears! Fuzzy fuzzies! Itty bitty toeses!

Invisible Illness Week

This meme's been going around recently. II Week is September 14-20th.

30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know )

Aug. 22nd, 2009

I had about an hour of huge energy and feel-goodness today. Then it went away and I was tired.

PS: [info]cheloya? I'm still sticking to one volume a night, so there. :P

Fall Cleaning

Things done today:

- Bought textbooks (blech! expensive.)
- Cleaned out car
- Removed tangle from cat (wore rubber gloves for that)
- Took eleven(!) boxes out of my room & to the recycling.
- Sorted old textbooks into 'sell now'/'sell later'/donate/keep
- Listed ISBNs of all 'sell later' books on college website
- Spent 2 hours reorganizing books & DVDs

Tired now. Tomorrow is work, but possibly after that I will clean out my closet. Possibly.

WTF, weather?

Seriously, what the fuck? SNOW!? Freaking SNOW!? It's April! We've had sunshiny semi-warmness for over a week straight! And yet, come April 1st, we get SNOW!?

. . . this is an April Fool's joke from the Planet Earth, isn't it?

I mean, even in the Yukon we hardly ever got snow into April.

I wanna be waaaaaaaarm!

Karate tiem naos!

Started going to karate again tonight, after being away for five freaking years. The result? PAIN. Had to walk home in the cold nasty darkness with wet hair from all the sweating and that was unpleasant. I ran a hot bath to help stave off tomorrow's inevitable stiffness, and dropped in a bath bomb from Lush. yuuuuuum. Read a bit of Mind Fuck while I relaxed (I have two copies, one good copy, and one for bathes and bus trips and other book-damaging things so that I can read it whenever/wherever the fuck I want, thank you very much.) I always, ALWAYS forget how freaking amazingly well done it is and how much I love it. I didn't even get to the sexy bit, and it still gave me the happies. After getting out of the tub, I had some frozen yogurt. :D

. . .

Of course, none of this compares to the fact that my own little fuckingdarling uke, aka [info]cheloya, got her paws on a copy of Corambis a whole week early. (>_<) Death, death to you!

I think I'm going to go off and rant for a little while.

Oh my god, I slept for 17 hours straight and my head is all spinny-spinny.

Feb. 9th, 2009

I don't *want* to go to sleep right now. I want to stay awake another 3 or 4 hours, sleep through my classes, and ignore reality. I really don't want to wake up early to finish the assignments I've put off, even though I had a three day weekend to work on them. I fucking hate that I'm so weak-willed that I can't force myself to do a 30-minute assignment until 20 minutes before class starts. I want to be able to sleep when I'm tired, and not have to drug myself insensate on pills to get to sleep at a "decent hour" so I can actually wake up in the morning and get to school. I don't want to have to keep a calendar of what pills I take on what nights and how many, just so I don't get addicted. I want someone to nag me in the morning and force me to get up, so I go even when I've only had an hour's sleep so I don't miss so many classes by sleeping in. I want to sleep for as long as I'm tired, and stay awake for as long as I'm not; screw the 24-hour diurnal cycle of planet Earth. 28 hours would be way more appropriate. It's almost one in the morning, and I'm in a bad mood.

Goodnight, Louis-Bear. You're missing a ribbon, did you know? It's okay. I still love you best.

This week:

Dishwasher broke.
Roommate whined a bunch about it.
FQ fixed dishwasher herself!! *cue amazement and applause*

Otherwise, not much happened. Slow week. Played some video games - Phoenix Wright II, Harvest Moon TOT, and Dokapon Kingdom. Sick on Monday; took the afternoon off. Presentation on Wednesday, which I royally screwed up. Read a bit of FEWL; am trying to pace myself so it lasts longer. Tried and failed to get a job.

I am completely frozen right now. When will it be summer?

Jan. 31st, 2009

Good things that happened

Friday was a good day

- I read the second half of Swordspoint. (utterly awesome, btw, and my uke has redeemed herself)

- I finally finally got my hands on Phoenix Wright: Justice For All

- I got a Keurig Elite B40 Single-cup coffee maker.(1) It shall live in my room and it shall be my pretty and I shall have warm beverages when I am semi-nekkid and there are people home. :3

- I went to see my grandparents! <3<3<3(Still there now, on their clunky old PC) Gramma and I are going to see a play today.

(1): It also makes tea, and I can fill a reusable K-Cup with my own loose leaf teas and have yumminess available at any time. I only have hot cocoa right now, though.

Status Update

So, as of today:

:: Wrist is still fucked - no more sewing for me!
:: Lamp is still broken - don't walk near the window!
:: Outside is still freezing - FAIL of all FAILs.

Last night you asked what time it was that we were both getting to ready to sleep at the same time.

Well, you asked that at 4:15am.

FQ <---- FAIL at proper sleeping habits

Day of the broken lamp, part two.

Still haven't cleaned up the glass, am just avoiding that section of my bedroom. It is now significantly darker, what with that whole sunset thing we have going on, and so I had to put down my book. (I was rereading Volume 5 of From Eroica With Love, which is campy and hilarious and omgtheirloveissoforever.)

I need to buy small binders and lots of lined paper. Last semester my schedule was such that I used large binders instead. And pens! My favouritist, bestest-working pen is, alas, out of ink.

Skipped the doctor's appt today, on account of being lazy.
